The Peninsula outpost of SF’s beloved chef-driven ice creamery, serving rotating adult flavors including Secret Breakfast, Vietnamese Coffee, and Matchadoodle with scoops, sundaes, floats, and shakes until late.
Humphry Slocombe at 2077 Broadway in Redwood City is the first and only Peninsula location from the San Francisco institution founded in 2008 by chef Jake Godby and co-owner Sean Vahey. The brand built its reputation on a single conviction: ice cream should taste like a grown-up made it. The name is a playful nod to two characters from the 1970s British sitcom “Are You Being Served?”
The flavor that launched it all is Secret Breakfast — bourbon ice cream with cornflake cookie crumbles, named by Food Network as one of the Top 5 Ice Creams in America. The core lineup always includes Secret Breakfast, Tahitian Vanilla, Blue Bottle Vietnamese Coffee, and Malted Milk Chocolate alongside rotating seasonal and collaboration flavors that number into the hundreds over the brand’s history. Recent and popular flavors at the Redwood City shop include Matchadoodle, Hong Kong Milk Tea, Peanut Butter Fudge Ripple, Pistachio Chocolate Crunch, and Kouign Amann. An affogato program has become a standout draw at this location. Staff allow tastings before you commit, which regulars strongly recommend given the rotating menu.
The shop sells scoops, sundaes, brownie sundaes, floats, shakes, waffle cones, and pints to go. Pints are also available nationally through Goldbelly and at Bay Area Whole Foods, Nob Hill Foods, and Safeway locations. Events and catering are available including a truck and cart option for private events. Open daily from 1 PM to 10:30 PM.
