Cafe Capistrano

American

Family-owned restaurant specializing in Mayan cuisine from the Yucatan, founded in 2001 by chef Arturo Mul.

Cafe Capistrano brings the Mayan and Yucatán flavors of chef Arturo Mul's hometown to a converted house on Church Street in Half Moon Bay. We like the restaurant's regional focus, which gives familiar Mexican dishes a setting alongside specialties worth exploring in their own right. Cochinita pibil features pork roasted in banana leaves, while poc chuc offers thinly sliced pork marinated with lime. Panuchos bring filled, fried tortillas into the selection, and grilled red snapper tacos provide a seafood alternative. Chicken adobo, enchiladas, and vegetarian quesadillas add other ways to build a meal, with housemade habanero sauce available for extra heat. The home-like rooms and patio complement the family restaurant's approach. Its appeal lies in discovering Yucatecan dishes in a relaxed coastside setting, whether ordering a favorite pork preparation or trying several smaller plates.
