YAYOI Hillsdale is the San Mateo branch of the Japanese YAYOI teishoku restaurant group, whose U.S. restaurants are in San Mateo, Palo Alto and Cupertino. Meals are built around teishoku sets of steamed rice, miso soup, a main dish, a vegetable side and pickles. Dishes featured by the brand include pork katsu curry, wagyu sukiyaki, wagyu yakiniku ju and sizzling teppan plates, and Sapporo draft beer is served. The restaurant is on the mall's lower level in Zone B.
