Authentic Guatemalan soups, guisados, and antojitos served in a newly renovated, family run restaurant with welcoming service.
Hermelinda Restaurante Guatemalteco brings a broad selection of Guatemalan comfort food to Middlefield Road in Redwood City. Churrasco, chicken soup, fried mojarra, tamales, and pepián give diners several ways to begin exploring the menu. We like that the smaller antojitos receive attention too, from chicken-and-potato dobladas to tostadas with beans, guacamole, or chicken. Garnachas, shucos, and mixtas add more familiar Guatemalan choices, while egg-coated vegetable preparations include cauliflower, green beans, and pacaya. Warm drinks offer a particularly distinctive accompaniment: the atol selection includes corn, rice with milk, fava bean, and oatmeal versions. Rellenitos de frijol and fried plantains bring sweetness to the finish. Hermelinda's appeal is the breadth of its Guatemalan repertoire, allowing a meal to be built around soup, a substantial plate, or several smaller traditional dishes.
