A women owned cafe inside the Peninsula Life Science Center in Burlingame, serving ceremonial matcha drinks, mochi muffins, handcrafted sandwiches, and boba, with a busy corporate catering business.
La Matcha Cafe at 1828 El Camino Real in Burlingame is a women owned cafe started by two friends who worked together in the food industry and dreamed of opening their own place. It sits on the lobby floor of the Peninsula Life Science Center, across from Lunardi’s and the Burlingame Plaza, with two reserved customer parking spaces beside the building.
The specialty is matcha. Drinks and baked goods are made with organic ceremonial grade Uji matcha, and the drinks use real teas and fruit instead of powders. The matcha menu includes plain, strawberry, mango, ginger, Oreo, and dirty matcha lattes, plus an iced matcha jasmine milk tea. Other drinks include Thai iced tea, Oreo black milk tea, fresh milk with black sugar boba, an oat milk chai latte, and avocado kale and mango passion smoothies. The mochi muffins are gluten free and come in ube coconut, matcha strawberry, and blueberry. Other baked goods include fudge brownies, chocolate chip cookies, and macarons.
Sandwiches are served all day and include the Ultimate Club, Spicy Peppercorn Pastrami, Turkey Pesto, Grilled Chicken, Jalapeño Chicken Melt, Pastrami Melt, Crab Melt, a Chipotle Black Bean Burger, and a marinated tofu sandwich.
Catering is a large part of the business, with sandwiches, boxed lunches, salads, boba, and cupcakes available individually wrapped. Cupcakes require two dozen per flavor and three to four days notice. Clients include Google, Apple, See’s Candies, Fanatics, and Mills Peninsula. Pickup is available, with delivery through ezCater or Grubhub.
