The Yard Coffee

Cafe$

A community-first coffee shop in a converted 1857 Redwood City farmhouse, roasting specialty beans on-site with zero emissions, with garden seating, live music, and regular events.

The Yard Coffee at 1018 Main Street in Redwood City is one of the more distinctive coffee shops on the Peninsula — a third place in the truest sense of the term, built inside and around a historic 1857 farmhouse believed to be among the oldest standing homes in Redwood City. The property was transformed by owner John Feig and operations manager Chris Sakelarios, both Redwood City residents who met by chance and shared a vision for a neighborhood gathering space that felt nothing like a modern minimalist café. The Yard consists of three interconnected spaces: the Offerman House main building with its wraparound porch and sun room, the Carriage House service area, and a tree-lined brick courtyard shaded by palm trees and umbrellas. The result is a cafe that feels more like hanging out in someone's backyard than walking into a coffee shop — families, remote workers, neighbors catching up, and kids running around in the yard are all part of the daily scene. Coffee is roasted on-site in small batches using a zero-emission Bellwether roaster. The drink menu spans classic espresso drinks, a La Azteca Mexican-style latte, pistachio latte, matcha latte, chai latte, London fog, sipping chocolate, and seasonal specialties. One menu item is inspired by a beverage enjoyed as a child by Sakelarios's late aunt, whose five organic coffee blends she continues to sell online. Pastries and light bites accompany the drinks menu. Live music, karaoke nights, and community events are held regularly. Open daily from 8 AM to 7 PM with a rewards program available.
