A beloved San Mateo food truck parked in front of a Peninsula Ave Shell station serving Jalisco-style tacos, quesabirrias with consomé, super burritos, vampiros, and tortas with spicy house salsa.
Andy’s Tacos Jalisco Food Truck at 400 Peninsula Ave in San Mateo is one of the most consistently praised taco trucks on the Peninsula, parked in front of a Shell gas station near the intersection of Peninsula Ave and Arundel Road. Owner Andy runs the truck himself and has built a loyal neighborhood following since the pandemic with a combination of fresh ingredients, generous portions, fast service, and genuinely warm hospitality.
The menu is rooted in Jalisco-style street food. The quesabirrias — crispy fried tortillas filled with beef and melted cheese, served with a rich consomé for dipping — are the standout dish and what most regulars drive out of their way for. Street tacos come in carne asada, al pastor, pollo, res, and chivo, topped with fresh cilantro and onion and paired with spicy house-made salsa. The super burritos and super quesadillas are notably large. Vampiros (carne asada and al pastor on a crispy tortilla), tortas, regular burritos, and Coca-Cola in glass bottles round out the menu. The asada burrito has its own devoted following for its seasoning and slight crunch. Online ordering for pickup is available through the truck’s website. Also available for catering events up to 150 people. Open Monday through Saturday from 2 PM to 5 PM, with an after-hours spot near the Safeway at Delaware and Peninsula reported by regulars in the evening.
