Grand Leader Market and Deli at 600 San Mateo Avenue in San Bruno has been a neighborhood institution since 2002, built around a simple and consistent promise: every sandwich is made to order with ingredients the kitchen makes itself. The team has been oven-roasting their own turkey, chicken, and roast beef in-house since day one, and also makes meatloaf and meatballs from scratch. Bread comes from a local bakery and is delivered fresh daily. The sandwich menu is extensive, covering both specialty builds and a full basic lineup across a wide choice of breads including sourdough, Dutch crunch, rye, and wheat rolls. Standout specialty sandwiches include the Godfather with Toscano salami, antipasto, and asiago on sourdough; the New Yorker with hot pastrami, coleslaw, and smoked swiss on rye; the Old Chicago pastrami on rye with sauerkraut; and the Chicken Cordon Bleu on Dutch crunch. All deli salads including macaroni, potato, coleslaw, and bean and corn salad are made fresh from scratch and available by the pound alongside deli meats and cheeses. As a full market, Grand Leader also carries local, micro brew, and handcraft beer, plus wines and spirits. Fresh-ground drip coffee is made one cup at a time, and coffee beans are sold by the pound. Indoor bar-style seating and a sunny outdoor patio are both available. Catering with 48 hours advance notice covers sandwich trays, pasta, hot platters, and green salads for groups up to 20. Open Monday through Saturday, 9 AM to 6 PM.
