A lively San Bruno Mexican seafood restaurant specializing in fresh shrimp and octopus cocktails, whole fried fish, camarones a la diabla, tacos, super burritos, and Cadillac margaritas with live mariachi on weekends.
Mar y Mar at 602 San Mateo Avenue in San Bruno is a Mexican mariscos restaurant and bar built around fresh seafood, generous portions, and a lively atmosphere that gets especially festive on weekends when mariachi plays. The name translates to "sea and sea," and the kitchen backs it up with one of the more extensive seafood menus on the Peninsula. The menu's core strengths are the seafood cocktails and whole fish plates. The coctel de camaron y pulpo — a chilled shrimp and octopus cocktail in tomato broth — is the signature dish and the most reordered item. Tostadas de pulpo, ceviche tostadas with mayonesa, and aguachiles round out the cold seafood starters. Whole fish plates include fried red snapper (huachinango frito), fried catfish (bagre frito), and fried tilapia (mojarra), all served with rice and vegetables. Camarones a la diabla in spicy sauce and the campechana — a large cocktail combining shrimp, octopus, and oysters — are standout plates. The 7 Mares seafood soup is a crowd favorite for heartier appetites. On the land side, carne asada, al pastor, chorizo, lengua, and carnitas tacos are all available, along with super burritos, super burritos mojados, fajitas mixtas, super nachos, quesadillas, and a kids menu. The full bar features Cadillac margaritas, piña coladas, and a solid beer selection. Open daily from 9 AM with extended hours to 10 PM on Fridays and Saturdays. Online ordering for pickup and delivery is available.
