Lou & Herbert's is an all-day cafe and bar inside Graduate Palo Alto, pouring coffee and serving breakfast in the morning before shifting to cocktails and small plates in the evening. The menu emphasizes seasonality and local influences, with artisan breads and pastries and West Coast oysters. The Spanish colonial building opened in 1929 as the Hotel President, named for Stanford alumnus Herbert Hoover, and the cafe takes its name from Hoover and his wife Lou Henry, a Stanford graduate and the university's first female geology major.
