California surf-culture pizza chain with a devoted Peninsula following for its thin-crust pies, calzones, and affordable slices.
Pizza My Heart began in a small storefront on Capitola Beach in 1981 and now runs locations from Monterey and Santa Cruz through Silicon Valley and the Peninsula, Palo Alto included. Its most popular specialty pie, the Big Sur, combines forty cloves of roasted garlic, pepperoni, sausage, portobello mushrooms, and green onions, and took first place for the Western US at the 2008 World Pizza Games. The Watsonville Apple was named best gourmet pizza at the 2008 West Coast Pizza Championships. The company remains family owned.
