A family-owned surf-culture coffee shop in Half Moon Bay housed in metal shipping containers, one block from the beach, serving Verve Coffee, matcha lattes, avocado toast, breakfast burritos, bagels, and pastries beside a fire pit patio.
Dawn Patrol Coffee at 155 Broadway in Half Moon Bay is a family-owned coffee shop that opened in May 2021, built inside repurposed metal shipping containers one block from the ocean. The name is a surfer’s term for the early morning session when conditions are at their best and the lineup is still empty — a fitting identity for a café that draws early risers, surfers heading toward Mavericks, and anyone looking to start the day with good coffee and a Pacific view.
The coffee program runs on Verve Coffee Roasters, the highly regarded Santa Cruz-based roaster known for its direct trade relationships and clean-tasting single-origin and seasonal blends. The menu covers espresso drinks, lattes, matcha, cold brew, and drip coffee with a wide range of milk options including oat, almond, coconut, soy, and whole milk. Food includes avocado toast, breakfast burritos, locally made hummingbird bread, bagels with shmear, muffins, and pastries. The matcha latte has become a signature item with its own devoted following among regulars and visitors alike.
The outdoor seating area is the other draw: a covered patio structure with cozy seating pockets and a gas-powered fire pit that makes it a genuinely pleasant place to linger even when the coast fog rolls in. The space is kid-friendly and dog-friendly, with a daily pun board adding a low-key sense of humor to the vibe. Open from early morning, closing in the early afternoon.
