Los Carnalitos on South Norfolk Street in San Mateo brings Mexico City-style street food to a convenient food-truck stop. Tacos and burritos share the menu with huaraches, pambazos, gorditas, and distinctive quesadilla fillings. We like the variety of corn-based dishes and the room it gives vegetables to play a central role. Squash blossoms, mushrooms, nopales, and huitlacoche appear in several combinations, including the Azteca quesadilla and burrito. Chorizo with potatoes provides a traditional pambazo filling, while pressed pork chicharron offers another direction. Al pastor and asada tacos give a familiar starting point for a first visit.
